A master model created using additive technologies is a high-precision prototype of a product made by layer-by-layer material buildup. This technology makes it possible to produce composite parts with geometry of any complexity without the need for traditional tools and tooling. Master models are used in foundry production, in the creation of molds, and also as reference samples for quality control.
The technology makes it possible to manufacture master models from various materials (polymers, composites, metals) with high geometry reproduction accuracy. The main fields of application include: the aerospace industry (creation of complex units and assemblies), the automotive industry (prototyping of parts), medicine (manufacture of anatomical models) and jewelry (production of master models for casting). Additive technologies reduce production time and cost compared with traditional methods.
Key advantages of additive production of master models: the ability to create products with internal cavities and complex channels that are unattainable with machining; high dimensional accuracy (up to 0.05 mm); minimal material waste; shorter production cycle; the ability to promptly make design changes. The technology makes it possible to manufacture single items and small series without significant tooling costs.
Master models are produced on industrial 3D printers using SLA (stereolithography), SLS (selective laser sintering) or DMLS (direct metal laser sintering) technologies. Finished products can undergo post-processing (grinding, polishing, painting) to achieve the required surface characteristics. Master models created by additive methods fully comply with the technical documentation and can be used both for visual evaluation of the design and for functional testing.
