The trainer is designed for training and practice on the ground of crews of Mi-171Sh helicopters, consisting of the commander (left-seat pilot), navigator (right-seat pilot) and flight engineer, in the full scope of their functional duties in piloting, navigation, operating the helicopter's onboard systems and equipment, communication, and effective interaction, including in the event of failures of various onboard systems and in special cases in accordance with the Mi-171Sh helicopter Flight Manual, with the aim of developing and maintaining stable skills in controlling the helicopter and its weapons in various conditions. The trainer is a universal means of ground training of flight personnel, providing all stages of crew training: from initial training and conversion from other aircraft types to proficiency improvement, periodic checks, skill recovery after a break and testing of new pilots. It is also used to train engineering and technical personnel and to practice their actions in the event of simulated malfunctions, as well as to reduce pilots' weather minima.
The functional capabilities of the trainer cover the full cycle of training: from familiarization with the control systems to performing tactical tasks and analyzing errors. Trainees can practice actions in normal, emergency and combat conditions, both individually and as part of a crew. Training can be conducted according to predefined scenarios with automatic task setting, with the option of promptly changing conditions during the “flights”. The instructor has access to a full set of control tools: from setting weather conditions and combat tasks to introducing failures and analyzing the tactical situation. All crew actions are recorded, replayed and documented for subsequent review and assessment.
Using the trainer makes it possible to significantly increase the effectiveness of the training process, to maintain and develop flying skills in conditions of limited flight hours, to save the resources and materials required for real training flights, and also to increase safety by practicing actions in abnormal situations. The trainer provides broad opportunities for mastering new training methods and strengthens control over flight discipline.
The trainer includes a crew cabin simulator, a motion system consisting of a dynamic six-degree platform and a vibration platform, and a 10-channel projection system with a spherical screen. Its structure includes the instructor's workstation with a hardware and software complex, a computer flight simulator and equipment for post-training debriefing.
